Post developmental Prdm16 deletion protects female mice from myocardial infarction

Semester: Summer 2023

Presentation description

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. The term ""heart disease"" refers to several types of heart conditions. The deletion of PRDM16 within 1p36 has been linked to cardiomyopathy, specifically left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC). Expression of PRDM16 becomes restricted to cardiomyocytes in adult humans and mice, but its role in adult hearts remains unknown. Our hypothesis is that post developmental loss of PRDM16 in adult hearts is associated with cardiac dysfunction.
