Presentation description
A frequent adaptation in the development of melanoma is the downregulation of arginionsuccinate synthetase 1 (ASS1). Examining the effects of arginine deprivation on ASS1 deficient cells, we found that in low arginine media these cells displayed a phenotype characterized by intracellular amino acid accumulation when compared to cells grown in arginine replete media. Understanding the pathways by which these cells respond to amino acid deficiencies could reveal novel cancer treatment options.
