Bronze Color in Pigeons is Associated with One Major Genetic Locus

Semester: Fall 2023

Presentation description

There is great diversity among breeds of fancy pigeons. Despite looking different, pigeons are all one species, and we can create crosses to help us study certain traits. Our lab made a cross to understand the genetic basis of a unique bronze color in pigeons, which we hypothesized to be controlled by multiple genes, since pigeons appear to inherit bronze color on different body regions separately. However, when we performed genetic mapping, we only found one major locus associated with bronze.
