Environmental Detectives: Collecting Clues about Past Environments by Playing in the Mud
Paleoecologists study past environments, collecting sediment cores from various locations around the world to determine past climate, vegetation and disturbance regimes, going back hundreds to tens of thousands of years. From these sediment (mud!) cores we can look for clues about past climate, plant and disturbance regimes. This information gathered is valuable to archaeologists, land managers, and other scientists.
