As an educator, I aim to train leaders by providing attention to individuals, and tying together lab, outreach, and research experience components in an environment that nurtures diversity. This approach is tailored to while providing an environment where each learner can grow to their full potential. I have mentored over two dozen undergraduate and PhD students, many in their first research experiences, in projects spanning theory, observation, and machine learning. My students develop an individual mentoring plan each term by working with me to identify their own research goals. I supplement these by writing down my expectations, and we assess and update the plans as we go. Student accomplishments include poster prizes, peer-reviewed publications, and meaningful careers in graduate school and beyond.
