Mentoring Philosophy:

As a mentor, my philosophy is grounded in fostering an environment of curiosity, growth, and mutual respect that empowers students to achieve their personal and professional goals in research. I strive to create a supportive and inclusive space where students feel valued for their unique perspectives and experiences, and where they can develop the skills, confidence, and independence necessary to thrive as scientists and lifelong learners. I believe in tailoring mentorship to meet the needs and aspirations of each student. Every student enters the lab with a different background, set of skills, and career ambitions. My role as a mentor is to recognize these differences and provide personalized guidance that helps them chart their own path. Whether a student aspires to a career in academia, industry, or Medicine, I work with them to identify short- and long-term goals and provide the resources and opportunities needed to reach them. Developing technical and analytical skills is a key component of research mentorship. I am committed to teaching foundational techniques while exposing students to advanced methodologies and emerging technologies. I encourage students to take ownership of their projects, progressively moving from guided instruction to independent work. Along the way, I provide constructive feedback and create opportunities for students to refine their skills in experimental design, troubleshooting, and data interpretation. In sum, I am committed to creating an inclusive and equitable environment where all students feel welcome and supported. I value open communication and encourage students to share their challenges, whether academic or personal, so that I can provide the necessary support and flexibility. I prioritize mental well-being, emphasizing the importance of balance, resilience, and self-care as integral components of a successful and fulfilling research experience.
