Mentoring Philosophy:

Our lab is committed to providing undergraduates with meaningful, hands-on research experiences in a supportive and collaborative environment. Because we primarily work with budding yeast, projects tend to move quickly, allowing students to actively participate in experiments, generate data, and see the impact of their work in real time. Undergraduate researchers are typically paired closely with a graduate student or senior scientist who provides day-to-day mentorship and in-depth technical training. Students are exposed to a diverse set of approaches spanning genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, microscopy, and biophysics, depending on their interests and project needs. We aim not only to teach experimental techniques, but also to help students develop scientific thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence as researchers. Our goal is for undergraduates to feel like valued members of the lab and to leave with both technical experience and a better understanding of how scientific discovery happens.
