Cellular and molecular mechanisms of pain and fatigue

Pain and fatigue, as common symptoms associated with many medical diseases and conditions, are not just messages from local tissues to be accepted at face value, but also complex information that is thoroughly processed in the brain, leading to behavioral, sympathetic and emotional responses. Our lab is interested in the neurobiology of inflammatory, traumatic and exercise-related pain and nerve injuries. We are taking a multidisciplinary approach, including behavioral, physiological, histological, and molecular analysis, to understand the characteristics of nociceptors (pain fibers) and their roles in the generation and modulation of pain and fatigue.
