AI IN THE WORLD AROUND US: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

Born from research I have done with the Responsible AI Praxis Lab as well as research with Dr. Austin Green on the ethics of AI us in ecology research, this paper speaks to the dangers of AI use in the world today and includes a manifesto about AI's impact on freedom. It includes specific, horrifying instances of AI systems being leveraged by those in power to exploit vulnerable people for profit, and demonstrates specific rights we as consumers should fight for when algorithms are used on us.

More than just the research itself, my paper is written with change itself in mind. The format of a manifesto, especially one intended to be read aloud, is more conducive to actual change than other styles of research reporting. The people most afected by harmful AI systems are those who do not have the resources to understand how they're being taken advantage of - and this paper was written for them. When it comes to dangerous AI, I don't believe change will come from the hands of those wielding it. It will come from Us.

But first, we have to care.
