Interrogating the Mechanistic Features of Electrochemical Deamination of Amine Salts

Semester: Summer 2023

Presentation description

Selective defunctionalization of C-X bonds is critical for developing new synthetic protocols for complex molecules. The activation and defunctionalization of amine groups are critical components in many chemical processes to create dimethylbiaryl atropisomers molecules, which are widely used in pharmaceutical drugs and other valuable products. However, the conventional protocols for this procedure require extreme conditions (i.e. high temperatures, costly reagents, extreme pressure, etc.). The electrosynthetic approach offers a potential alternative route for selective organic transformation. Understanding the kinetics and thermodynamics of these reversible steps is crucial for controlling reaction selectivity and optimizing the efficiency of the electrosynthesis process. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) is one of the electroanalytical approaches that provides information about electron kinetics, thermodynamics, and the consequences of electron transfer . In this work, we have investigated the oxidative and reductive changes by CVs for understanding mechanisms and improving the yield of defunctionalization.
