Measuring electrical transmission with Spread Spectrum Time Domain Reflectometry (SSTDR)

Semester: Summer 2023

Presentation description

Various technologies, including MRI, CT scans, and radar, provide valuable data through scanning, particularly in medicine. However, limitations such as high costs and X-ray exposure exist. To address this, we propose SSTDR (Scanning and Sensing Time Domain Reflectometry) technology, offering affordable and safe scans.|SSTDR sends a signal into a transmission line with a particular code. When connected to an unresponsive object, it reflects 100% of the sent signal. By correlating sent and reflected data, SSTDR can determine parameters like distance. We extend this to transmission, using the same code picked up by a second antenna, allowing impedance changes to be detected throughout a medium.|Unlike reflection-based methods, our proposed technology overcomes the limitations of detecting changes only up to a certain point. It enables safer and more cost-effective detection of conditions like breast cancer.|Using SSTDR, we aim to overcome the drawbacks of existing scanning technologies, offering an accessible and safe solution for medical diagnostics.
