Making an Impact with Research

Research is more than simply producing new knowledge and getting published. Scholars want to effect change on many levels, from influencing academic conversations and shaping policy choices to moving the public opinion needle and improving local communities. This workshop will explore the centrality of knowing one’s audience in producing research that matters. The focus will be on a study about racism in higher education and the intertwined relationship between audience and impact over the fifteen-year life of the project. This session will be helpful for any student, particularly students in fields with the potential for broad social application and impact.
