Investigating the X-Ray Spectrum of Candidate Neutrino Sources NGC 1068 and NGC 4151

Semester: Summer 2024

Presentation description

IceCube searches for high-energy neutrino emissions from Active Galactic Nuclei have shown evidence for excess at the location of some Seyfert Galaxies, particularly NGC 1068, as well as a few other candidates. The VERITAS TeV gamma-ray observatory observed two candidate neutrino Seyfert Galaxies, NGC 1068 and NGC 4151. This motivated us to perform an X-ray analysis of both sources using NuSTAR and Swift-XRT data. We used a disk-corona model to fit the X-ray spectrum of these Seyfert Galaxies. A broadband spectral energy distribution of NGC 1068 was assembled to compare the X-ray, gamma-ray, and neutrino emissions, and examine theoretical models in the literature.
