Cam-Ant-Ics: Data collection in the age of AI

Semester: Spring 2024

Presentation description

In this project, I study if an unsupervised AI model can identify intraspecific groups (e.g. sex, caste) within a Formica pallidefulva ant colony, and if the model will be scalable to identifying insects in the field. As small insects can be very difficult to study due to their size, this model would allow tracking of species movements across an ecosystem and analysis of wide-scale behavioral dynamics.
