Project description
The Rowley Lab (www.plateletlab.com) is seeking exceptional students to join their team within the platelet group at the University of Utah. Platelets are cells that stick to holes in blood vessels to stop bleeding. They also contribute to clot formation for example in heart attacks or strokes. Students will research how genetics and mitochondria influence platelet function, bleeding, and clot formation. In one project, students will participate in projects utilizing cutting-edge CRISPR/Cas9 approaches in human blood cells to evaluate gene functions and the effect of genetic variants in blood cells, including platelets and megakaryocytes. In another project, students will assess how mitochondria affect platelet function using mouse knockout models.
