Presentation description
Falls in elderly patients in hospitals are common and dangerous. There are many different things that can contribute to these falls. We are looking to understand how the physical layout of a hospital room can affect the falls in these elderly patients using a Vicon tracking system and four different room configurations. In order to complete these clinical studies we need to have a way of easily and quickly reconfiguring the room we are using. This room needs to be able to allow for Vicon camera vision and be accurate in dimension to hospital rooms currently in use. We use volunteers to walk through each room set up and track their position while moving through the layout. Doing this we will be able to find how often patients are in uncomfortable and high risk scenarios. We will ensure the accuracy of these trials by ensuring the room is the same layout as a hospital and that any doors or objects that will be used are accurate to common hospitals. To reconfigure the room we will use a main frame on wheels that can be moved easily to wherever it is needed. We will then rigidly attach the desired door using a secondary frame and bracket. These measures will all ensure that each phase of our study are accurate and efficient.
