Dr. Furse’s expertise in Electromagnetics (EM) is applied to sensing and communication in complex lossy scattering media such as the human body, geophysical prospecting, ionospheric plasma, and aircraft wiring networks. See: http://EMLAB/eng.utah.edu
Her research spans several applications (to find out more, click on the links below):
- Reflectometry: Development of SSTDR to locate intermittent electrical faults on aging aircraft wiring and photovoltaic systems.
- Bioelectromagnetics: Telemetry antennas for medical implants
- Computational EM: Fast methods for predicting fields in the body and their statistical variation
- Engineering Education: Dr. Furse is a pioneer in the flipped classroom teaching method.
- Sea Ice: Measurement of the electrical properties of sea ice in Antarctica and the Arctic
