Mentoring Philosophy:
Brian Snapp is a Professor in Ceramics at the University of Utah. He holds a BA in Music from California State University San Francisco and an MFA from California State University Los Angeles. His explorations in art include ceramic sculpture, sculpture, mixed/media, and installation. His work has been presented at the International Forum for Ceramics, China, Macsabal Woodfire Festival, Korea, 54th Premio Faenza: International Ceramic Art Competition, Italy, Feats of Clay XVIII, California, Rocky Mountain Biennial, Colorado and CEBIKO 2nd World Ceramic Biennale, Korea. He has also presented lectures and workshops in Italy, Korea, China, California, Utah and New Zealand. Publications include Scope: Contemporary Research Topics (peer reviewed journal), Selections of Ceramic Arts from International Masters (catalogue), Macsabal International Woodfire Festival 2008 (catalogue), and Clay Times. He currently teaches beginning through advanced courses in ceramics as well as studio foundations and graduate seminars. In 2009 he was appointed Chair for the Department of Art & Art History and is a member of NCECA, NCAA and the International Forum for Ceramics. His current work centers on creating spaces for contemplation of compassion, holistic living and considerations of war and religion. Two installations were recently exhibited at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts.
