My UROP project set out to examine 7 iterations of the Broadway musical Cabaret, first-person survivor testimonies from the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC, and peer-reviewed literature on musical theater and historical memory to question the use of a musical for contemporary Holocaust commemoration. I will be doing a specific analysis on the original 1966 revival directed by Hal Prince, the 1998 revival directed by Sam Mendes, and the current 2024 Rebecca Frecknall revival.
