Utilizing Circular Chromosomes to Study Break Repair During Sexual Reproduction

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

During meiosis chromosomes undergo a double stranded break (DSB) this can be repaired using two methods. The chromatid utilizes the identical sister chromatid resulting in aneuploid gametes. Or the chromatid can utilize the other homolog resulting in a physical linkage between homologs leading to correct chromosome segregation. C. elegans form extrachromosomal arrays (exCHR) when DNA is microinjected into the gonad, using this system of exCHRs I will study outcomes of sister chromatid exchanges.
