Presentation description
According to NIH acute myeloid leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow that is diagnosed in about 20,000 Americans each year, with a 5 year survival rate of less than 33%. While many AML patients respond to induction chemotherapy, many relapse quickly due to dormant AML cells that hide out within the bone marrow, and form resistance to previously administered chemotherapy drugs. The Shami Lab studies standard of care drugs in combination with new agents such as JS-K P123 to determine if synergy is present. Synergy involves the combination of drugs to improve cancerous cell death more effectively. Our studies focus on finding synergy between JS-K P123 in combination with Venetoclax and DSTAT. We performed these experiments in mono-culture with Hl-60 cells, and co-culture with Hl-60 and HS-5 cells. The chemotherapy agents were added and cell viability/death was recorded using CellTiter-Glo and Flow analysis.
