Sustainable Electrochemical Halogenation of Alcohols

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

Our project showcases a novel method for the halogenation of Alcohols replacing the traditional "Appel Reaction". We have removed the necessity of using carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) which is both carcinogenic and ozone-depleting while maintaining similar or superiority in its effectiveness. In addition, our project has shown a never before seen pathway that allows for effective one-pot Carbon to Carbon or Carbon to Oxygen bond formation from the precursor alcohols.
