SSTDR for Fault Monitoring in Power Systems

Semester: Fall 2025

Presentation description

SSTDR is a proven method for impedance measurement and fault detection in wiring systems. Our research explores its use in power grids, including wind and solar farms, to improve fault detection. We validated SSTDR on circuits with single conductors over a ground plane, observing expected impedance shifts and strong reflections. In branching networks, differences were detectable 18 branches deep. We're now training ML models to locate and classify impedance changes for grid diagnostics.
