Characterizing the Structural Diversity of Cdc48

Semester: Spring 2026

Presentation description

Cdc48 is an enzyme that helps clean up damaged proteins in the cell. When Cdc48 doesn't work properly, diseases such as ALS or cancer can occur. Cdc48 works by using "adapters" to change its structure and function. My research focuses on isolating Cdc48 from its natural environment and imaging it via cryogenic electron microscopy to ultimately discover the 3D structures of adapter-bound Cdc48.
