Predictive Validation of the Autobiographical Counterfactual Thinking Scale

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

Counterfactual thinking (CFT) involves imagining alternative outcomes, with upward CFT linked to goal-setting but also negative emotions. Downward CFT helps regulate mood after distress. CFT can be distorted during negative affect, contributing to mental health issues like PTSD, depression, and anxiety. This article introduces the Autobiographical Counterfactual Thinking Scale (ACTS) to measure CFT's frequency and direction, exploring its validity and correlations with related constructs.
