Placental Lipid Droplet Accumulation in Uteroplacental Insufficiency: Preferential Trapping of DHA-Containing Triglycerides

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

Fetal organogenesis requires long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA). Fetuses from pregnancies complicated by uteroplacental insufficiency (UPI) often show deficiencies in LCPUFAs.This study tested the hypothesis that UPI increases placental lipid accumulation and trapping of neutral lipids. UPI was induced in Sprague- Dawley rats by bilateral uterine artery ligation, and placenta tissue collected at C-Section. Untargeted lipidomics were performed to determine trapped lipid profiles.
