Odor-Based Differences Between Drosophila Species

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

I tested the learning ability across the odors I identify in D. melanogaster, D. yakuba yakuba, and D. yakuba mayottensis. Their learning ability was tested using the T-maze learning paradigm, where odor-based classical conditioning took place. Flies are shocked on an odor and then allowed rest in an odorless airflow and then later allowed to meander between the two airflows. From this, a calculated performance index proved differing olfactory responses across the diverging species.
