This study aimed to investigate the enzymatic degradation of synthetic mucin polymers by two mucin-specific proteases, StcE and SmE, to better understand their substrate preferences and potential therapeutic applications. Investigating StcE and SmE as tools for studying mucin biology and developing targeted therapies for diseases involving mucin dysregulation, such as cystic fibrosis and cancer.
