Molecular and Lipid Drivers of Lung Development

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

My study investigates the role of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) and the LCPUFA-dependent transcription factor PPARg in lung development. I am focusing on the last two stages of lung development, the saccular to alveolar transition. Clinically, impaired alveolar formation is a hallmark of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a severe lung disease in preterm neonates. In my study, I am measuring LCPUFA levels and PPARγ isoform ratios at various stages of alveolar formation.
