Presentation description
Speech perception involves predictions to facilitate processing, but reliance on predictions can cause false hearing, defined as confidently perceiving incorrect words when predictions override auditory signals. The study tested cognitive control's role in false hearing by having participants perform a verbal response task while performing a dual-level driving task. False hearing rates were unaffected by driving difficulty, suggesting cognitive control is less central than previously thought.
