Learning Non-Local Syntactic Dependencies Via Probabilistic Finite-State Tree Automata

Non-local syntactic dependencies are simply syntactic rules that stand even though two words aren't next to each other. The specific syntactic dependency we are analyzing are syntactic gaps, especially those associated with wh-words. For instance in the question what is John eating, there isn't a direct object after the verb even though the transitive case is being used. Using statistical metrics and child speech data we model this syntactic relationship to understand how children learn this.
