Investigating the Role of NCAM 1 in Promoting the Development of Brain Metastases in Metastatic Melanoma

Semester: Spring 2026

Presentation description

Neural cell adhesion molecule 1 (NCAM1) is an immunoglobulin-like adhesion molecule with an extracellular adhesion domain and an intracellular signaling domain. In an analysis of patient tumors it was found to be significantly upregulated in melanoma brain metastases. We found that increased NCAM1 significantly changes the progression of melanoma as well as increases the rate of metastases. My current research is working to uncover the drivers behind these observed differences.
