Presentation description
Obesity is associated with an increased risk for postmenopausal breast cancer. As obesity rises at an alarming rate worldwide, it has become increasingly critical to investigate the link between obesity and breast cancer. We discovered that the paracrine factor 9S-HODE, which is secreted by lean inguinal adipocytes, inhibits breast cancer growth through the activation of a type of cell death known as ferroptosis. To better understand the mechanisms behind 9S-HODE's inhibition of breast cancer, we are investigating regulators of 9S-HODE production, how 9S-HODE induces ferroptosis, and whether adiposity or diet causes the lowered 9S-HODE production observed in obese mice.
