Identifying Symmetric Resonances of Quartz Tuning Forks for Nano-scale Force Sensing

Semester: Fall 2025

Presentation description

The use of quartz tuning forks (QTFs) as microscale dynamometers has become increasingly prevalent in atomic force microscopy (AFM), where characterizing the dynamic system model of a QTF is essential to measuring the tip-sample forces. Previously, it was impossible to measure the symmetric resonance for characterization experimentally, but my new approach makes this resonance mode observable. Characterized QTFs are analyzed to verify the model and find correlations in parameters.
