How do Near-Peer Scenarios Affect General Chemistry Students’ Description of Scientists?

Semester: Spring 2026

Presentation description

We are analyzing General Chemistry students' written responses to vignettes describing well-known scientists, as well as undergraduate and graduate STEM students. Using qualitative analysis, we found 6 emergent themes (life challenges, societal impact, backgrounds, science attributes, and belonging). This experimental intervention consisted of 3 groups. After coding the responses, we will determine the response frequencies. We will discuss the intervention, categories, and response frequencies.
