Establishing a Sample Preparation Protocol for Nanoscopic Fluorescence and Electron Microscopy (nano-fEM)

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

This project aims to establish a sample preparation protocol for C. elegans which identifies the optimal fixatives, concentrations of fixatives and type of resin that preserve fluorescence while maintaining ultrastructure, particularly membrane morphology visible in electron microscopy (EM). In doing so, the same sample can undergo fluorescence and EM imaging to be overlayed, generating a map of the specific locations of proteins within the biological ultrastructure at nanoscale resolution.
