Drought and Pastoral Resiliency: An Analysis of Ranchers’ Responses to the 2020-2022 Drought Anomaly in Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

Our research focuses on traditional ranchers in Baja California Sur, Mexico, and how they responded to the severe 2020-2022 drought. The findings were alarming, most ranchers have not seen economic or herd size recovery. Even more alarming, 72% of ranchers worry that they will have to abandon their ranches if conditions persist. There is hope, however, through targeted support like diversifying income and improving infrastructure, we can help these communities before its too late.
