Does Grooming Behavior Respond to Morphological Changes?

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

The source of grooming behavior is relatively understudied outside of parasite research. In this study, we researched morphological effects on grooming behavior to investigate the programmed and stimulus-driven grooming hypotheses. We found little effect of morphology on grooming behavior in captive rock pigeons which suggests a large influence of programmed grooming and that there is strong selection for basal rates of grooming in domesticated pigeons.
