Development of an Electrochemical Method to Synthesize Thioethers

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

This work explores a synthetic route to thioethers, leveraging an electrochemical approach that excludes the stoichiometric oxidant typically required to exact this transformation. Removing the chemical oxidant reduces waste, energy consumption, and byproduct formation, promoting sustainable and green chemistry. Method development will begin with small molecule thiol and disulfide model substrates, and future research will apply the methodology to diverse structures found in biological compounds
