Comparing Spectra of Changing-Look AGNs

Semester: Fall 2025

Presentation description

My research compares the spectrum for a single galaxy between SDSS and DESI, and shows how the broad line H-beta region is present in the older SDSS spectrum, and disappears in the newer DESI spectrum. This suggests that the obscuring torus around the galaxy's AGN is clumpy, rather than smooth or continuous. The code that I wrote to accomplish this is applicable to millions of galaxies, allowing for a larger dataset to be used to draw further conclusions.
