Bone Morphogenetic Protein Binding Endothelial Regulator (BMPER) is a Developmental Marker of Brown Adipose

Semester: Summer 2024

Presentation description

Obesity and metabolic syndrome are among the leading causes of cardiovascular disease and are often fatal in patients. Although researchers have described the link between excess adipose tissue and cardiovascular disease, there is a significant knowledge gap in the development and regulation of adipocytes. One protein that may be involved in adipocyte formation and regulation is BMPER (Bone Morphogenetic protein binding Endothelial Regulator). BMPER transcripts are found in found in both white and brown adipose tissue progenitors, suggesting that BMPER may have a role in the formation of these tissues.
