Beyond Finite Elements: A Comparative Study of Innovative Gear Contact Models

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

This study evaluates two hybrid finite element/semi-analytical approaches for modeling gear tooth contact. The first approach employs the industry-adopted mesh stiffness-based method. The second approach uses a proposed half-space formulation that eliminates the need for the approximated mesh stiffness parameter. Simulations from both models are compared with experimental data to assess their ability to capture the nonlinear dynamics of gear contact.
