Balancing Local and Global Structure Preservation in Dimensionality Reduction

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

Dimensionality reduction (DR) techniques are used to project high-dimensional data into an "embedding space" of a lower dimension (usually 2 or 3) where it's easier to visualize. Both local and global structure preservation are key to creating a representative and useful embedding. Some DR techniques focus on more local structure; others on global. This project focuses on hybridizing common DR techniques to balance the preservation of both local and global structure.
