Anti-homeless-ness as an American Ideology: The Olympic Failure

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

The Rio Grande project, formally introduced in 2020, has sparked conversations to expand the downtown area but neglects to acknowledge the costs of doing so- forcibly removing unhoused individuals. With the 2034 Winter Olympics held in Utah, there is a strict timeline to become 'convenient, accessible, and aesthetic.' However, research from previous host cities indicates homelessness intensifies and is criminalized as the Olympics approaches. (Chen, 2014; Robertson, 2020; & Parson, 2018)
