Presentation description
The presenter demonstrates a proof-of-concept software project which improves upon genome assemblies created by next-generation assemblers like Flye, Canu, etc.
Particularly, it first creates a scaffold via an input reference genome; then it uses a greedy algorithm to patch simple gaps in the scaffold which may occur due to low sequencing coverage and/or errors.
The presenter then discusses potential algorithmic avenues for assembly of the highly repetitive regions of the genome which have so far evaded automation.
