Advancing Laser-Induced Particle-Impact Testing through Launch Pad Design and Optimization

Semester: Spring 2026

Presentation description

Conducted UROP research in the STARS Laboratory focused on improving Laser-Induced Particle Impact Testing (LIPIT), a technique used to study material behavior under extreme strain-rate impacts similar to micrometeoroid collisions. Investigated glass-based launch pad designs to replace elastomer layers, aiming to improve testing precision, temperature tolerance, and particle velocity for evaluating advanced aerospace materials such as high-temperature superalloys.
