Wildfires are an increasing threat in the US, with their frequency and severity escalating and posing significant risks to power systems. Power lines can ignite wildfires, and power outages before and after an event can hinder response and recovery efforts. Although the connection between energy infrastructure and wildfire risk is well-documented, most research identifies risks rather than offering actionable mitigation strategies.
Unlike more established disaster mitigation plans for hazards like floods, wildfire risk reduction strategies, particularly concerning power systems, remain underexplored. While there's growing awareness and research on power system strategies for wildfire resilience, the actual integration of energy resilience into post-fire recovery at various stakeholder levels is largely unexamined. This study aims to address this gap by investigating the adoption of integrative strategies.
