Presentation description

Throughout history, community has been vital to the survival and thriving of gay and trans people. Particularly in times of political hostility, small pockets of queer populations formed tight-knit communities. For this project, I researched these instances throughout history, compared with the current political landscape as it pertains to gay and trans rights. I sought to convey that community is just as important as it ever was as the West continues to decline into conservatism. I worked traditionally and with largely the same materials to establish a sense of unity through the series. When I draw digitally, the ability to change an image-whatever, whenever, and however- often backfires and I become stuck. I wanted to avoid this and therefore went in with a permanent medium that I couldn't take away, only add more. I find the additive nature of paint to be poetic in a way- the only way to an end is to keep going.
