3D mental representations and search efficiency of radiologists viewing 3D models of anatomical structures

Semester: Spring 2025

Presentation description

Holistic visual processing is a marker for expertise in radiology and is developed through experience resulting in perceptual expertise. The unique stimuli of volumetric images, which do not fall neatly into being either 2D or 3D, results in unique visual search behavior of radiologists. Our experiment tests search efficiency of 3D anatomical models compared to volumetric images to see if some of the visual search complexity can be overcome by using this new search paradigm.
