FGF21, a regulator of metabolism, is induced in the body in response to mitochondrial stress. In dilated cardiomyopathy, mitochondrial stress occurs during disease progression. This study aimed to determine the origin and effects of FGF21 during heart failure. We induced HF in four mice and examined the FGF21 gene and protein expressions. The preliminary results did not allow us to determine the production-site of FGF21, but the findings suggested that the heart was a target-site.
